We all know the fascination children have with superheros. Batman, Superman, Captain America, Green Lantern, etc. All of those have a certain place in every childhood, especially boys. (Of course, something can be said for Wonder Woman who was my favorite!)
So many kids I have seen run around playing superhero...recess...outside...nap time...you know, whenever it is necessary to pretend to rid yourself of the boredom that is sure to actually kill you.
How many parents, I wonder, have been victims of the Superman flying experiment off the roof, off the top of a tree, the top of the swing-set...
How many kids, I wonder, have been in the emergency room with various sprains, broken bones or just taken because of the extreme unbelief that your child could have possibly NOT been injured from the last superhero adventure!
So as the grown-up in the life of Little Lyon, I can expect to come across certain "adventures" along the way. Especially a Little Lyon that loves superheros...and is incredibly smart...and fearless.
SO imagine a long day, where the only time you know you can get ANY peace at all is nap-time. You look forward to this time of day from the time you get up in the morning until you know the little Tasmanian Devil has finally crashed from his morning of endless activity.
Finally, you get some quiet and decide to actually watch a Grown-Up Show. You know, one with all the violence and filth and everything that is incredibly interesting to you but (of course) you cannot watch with a very observant 3 year old around.
Your show is just getting to the good part...so-and-so is sleeping with so-and-so and the husband (or wife) is about to find out....and you hear the sound that causes all parents' hearts to stop and their stomach to go right into their mouth....the blood-curdling scream of injury, maiming, dismemberment, decapitation...(you know, all those pictures that go through your mind in .0001 seconds)...
Running into your precious child's bedroom you find them hanging...upside down...by one leg...from the bunk bed....HELP ME, MOMMY!!!!!!!!
Without a thought, you quickly unwrap the evil, killer cord first from his neck, then arms, then finally, his leg. "What the hell is this stuff" you ask yourself as you are frantically saving his life (he is yelling the entire time)...and after you have unwrapped him from the web of death, you ask....."WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!!!"
"I was being Spiderman!" (in the plaintive little 3 year old voice that begs you to "forgive me no matter what")
"What is this stuff?!"
"Floss!"
And so now, while thinking to yourself, "WTF was he thinking", you calmly explain how wrapping yourself and your bed in dental floss and then jumping off is generally not a good idea. And you promise yourself that from this point forward, all string type items will be securely hidden.
